End of an era as Trevor (73) retires from museum role

Historian Trevor Hearn (73), who worked for Leicestershire County Council, said he’d had ‘a wonderful time’ working at the Carnegie Museum and was sad to leave. When he started work there the museum, in Thorpe End, was open seven days a week.

Trevor has previously spent years researching Melton’s war dead and he has given all of the books he’s written on the topic to the museum where his wealth of research and knowledge can be accessed by visitors. Trevor’s research also helped with the Melton Mowbray Town Estate’s project to enhance the war memorial with new interpretation board giving more details of local soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War.

Katie Bluett, museum support officer at Melton Carnegie Museum, said: “Trevor will be very much missed by everyone. He’s such a huge character who was so welcoming to all of our visitors and customers. It’s the end of an era.”

Among those wishing Trevor all the best for the future on Facebook was Teresa Steggles who said: “Such a lovely man. Trips to the museum now will just not be the same.”
