Brass band concert at Melton's St Mary's Church to raise funds for refurbishment of primary school in Philippines devastated by typhoon

Proceeds from a brass band concert being performed in Melton's St Mary's Church on Saturday (June 11) will go towards a Rotary project to refurbish a primary school in the Philippines devastated by a typhoon in 2013.

The Desford Colliery Band will be performing in the church at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 for seats and £15 with wine and canapes.

The Rotary Club of Melton Mowbray is raising funds for the continuing refurbishment of the primary school in Tacloban in the Philippines, which was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.

The club’s Alison Blythe said: “We’re very fortunate to have this prestigious world-class brass band come and support our cause.

“The initial project of rebuilding the school has been successfully completed, with money raised by Melton Rotary, but this part of the project is raising money to educate the teachers in IT in the classroom. It is also to install clean water fountains because, at present, there is no fresh water for the children to even wash their hands in.”

Tickets to the concert are available from Alison Blythe on (01664) 481997 or via www.meltonrotary.org.uk/BandConcert
