Chris Harby's Broadside - blood him now
THE only thing sadder than the whole Jellygate 'scandal' and the media's over-indulgent treatment of it has to be England's PERFORMANCE.
Yes, does anyone remember we actually got comprehensively stuffed, the first time for quite a while on home turf? In fact can anyone remember any actual cricket?
It's a travesty that much of the media almost completely ignored a very impressive Indian win on English soil.
A match, let's not forget, which saw Sachin Tendulkar, in imperious form, become only the third batsman in Test history to reach 11,000 runs.
A disgrace compounded by the fact it let England off the hook for what was, by their standards at least, a poor show.
It may be stating the bleeding obvious to point out England's tail is far too long. But when will the selectors agree?
Maybe they are still hearkening back to the halcyon days when you picked your four best bowlers regardless. But those days are over. You can get away with it for so long, but not forever and England's opponents know it.
Stuart Broad's omission from the squad in favour of the recalled Tremlett didn't exactly make common sense.
The Hampshire seamer did bowl well, but going in at the crucial number eight spot he bagged a pair in the first Test and added 25 scratchy runs in the second.
Broad's call-up is surely only a matter of time, but why not take the Australian approach and blood him now? After all, the guy scored a 50 at number 10 and bagged a five-for the next day....against India!
We've got two years and counting to avenge our Ashes mauling, let's not make the same old mistakes again.
