Stilton Strider pipped at Old Dalby Hill Race

The Stilton Striders made up almost a quarter of the field at this year's Old Dalby Hill Race.

A total of 66 runners completed the four-and-a-half-mile challenge complete with 500 feet of ascent packed in.

The field faced a long climb up the main hill out of the village with a few inclines on the loop through Grimston before the quick descent through the woods back to Old Dalby.

Experienced runner Tim Hartley won the event in a time of 29min 17secs after a furious battle with Strider’s top finisher Jason Barton who crossed the line just two seconds back.

Jane Potter completed the top three and won the ladies’ prize, crossing the line in 30.08.

Next back for the Striders was Luke Eggleston (32.21) in ninth with Alan Thompson (33.20) just two places down.

Mike Bryan (33.47) was second local male to finish in 12th, followed by clubmates Paul Geeson (17th - 35.25), Clive Kent (35.45), and Michael Atton (21st – 36.17).

Katie Hateley (36.48) was the first Striders and local lady finisher in 23rd, followed by Dan Valencia (24th – 36.59), Rich Gray (25th – 37.07), John Houghton (27th – 37.44), Ben Pickard (28th – 37.44), Christie Jones (32nd – 39.16), Sarah Procter (37th – 41.46), Tony Allen (49th – 47.19), Kaye Mead (56th – 49.36), and Lou Houghton (58th – 50.03).
