SLIDESHOW: Stilton Striders dominate Belvoir Half Marathon

SLIDESHOW THURSDAY NOON: The Stilton Striders were out in force and on form at Hose on Sunday as they dominated the Belvoir Half Marathon.

Calm conditions with light drizzle were perfect for this half-marathon event which attracted 674 entries and 68 fun runners.

Chris Southam was on top form and produced a superb personal best of 1hr 12min 05secs to win the men's race and by right the 40-49 men's age category, while team-mates Darren Glover (1.22 22), Simon Maggs (1.28.29) and Richard Gray (1.29.17 PB) helped Stilton pick up the men's team prize.

Fellow Strider Nicola Clay won the women's race in 1.22.55 and the ladies' team made it four wins out of four by taking the women's team prize with strong support from Vicki Lowe (1.38.23 PB) and Helen Widdowson (1.42.59 PB).

Other Stilton times were Gary Postle (1.34.08 PB), Martin Miles (1.38.10), Phil Douglas (1.38.22), Darryl Woolward (1.40.24), Mike Brightly (1.41.27), Clive Wright (1.41.42), junior Strider Jennifer Warner (1.43.10), Wayne Hackett (1.44.06), Jason Shelton (1.50.57), and debutant Marie Gray (2.18.25).

The race started and finished at Hose Village Hall, following an attractive rural route through the Vale of Belvoir, via Harby, Langar, Colston Bassett and Long Clawson.

The event, organised by Hose Village Hall Management Committee, raised more than 4,000 which will go towards draining the playing field, installing solar-powered water heating and improving insulation in the village hall.

Emergency support for the runners was provided by Belvoir First Aid, and wireless communications were maintained by Raynet. Timing using RFID chip technology was provided by Sport Systems Ltd.

A total of 40 villagers acted as marshals, car-park supervisors and water point attendants and made food for the competitors and followers.
