Melton RFC Firsts drop to ninth with defeat at Dronfield
MELTON RFC First XV suffered more woe on the road with a tight defeat at Dronfield on Saturday.
Their second successive away defeat dropped Leon Pohe’s team down to ninth, just one place above the drop zone in Midlands Two East (North) with nine points from five matches.
They failed to score a try in the 26-12 loss with all their points coming from the boot, with Chris Rose slotting three penalties and Phil Stimson the other.
They will be desperate to revive their promotion hopes when they return to their Burton Road headquarters for a meeting with unfamiliar foes Nuneaton Old Edwardians on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
In contrast, Nuneaton lie fourth in the table with 17 points albeit with just one more win from their opening five games than Melton.
l Syston RFC continued their recovery in National League Three (Midlands) with a 35-20 win at Scunthorpe.
Syston lost their opening three games of the season, but a run of four wins and a draw in their last five matches has lifted Chris Tarbuck’s men up to sixth.
They return to home territory on Saturday when Sandbach are the visitors (ko 3pm).
