Melton RFC Under 8s capped a great end to the season by claiming their third trophy at Syston on Sunday.
They travelled ith a depleted squad to the Syston Festival without five of the squad which had won at Nuneaton the previous weekend.
Melton Lions were edged out of the top two in their group to reach the Vase quarter-finals where they were handed a bye.
In the semis, a strong Market Harborough side scored the winning try in the dying seconds after Baxter had a potential match-winning try ruled out.
Melton Tigers fared better, finishing second in their group and beating Loughborough 2-0 in a close quarter-final.
In the last four they faced Leicester Forest East who had run in nine tries in their previous game.
Head Coach Paul Moore gave an inspirational pep talk and the boys flew out of the blocks with man-of-the-match Davey scoring five tries before half-time. Melton eased off in the second half, adding two more tries to win 7-0 with Davey completing his double hat-trick.
For the second week running it was a Melton-Syston final and the visitors got off to a flyer, going 2-0 up before a third score was disallowed.
Syston reduced the arrears, and tries were then traded with Melton retaining a two-try lead thanks to a double from super sub Beech. But the final turned when Buck was injured and Syston levelled at 7-7.
Melton pushed for the outright victory, but the Shield was shared.
