Melton RFC complete superb double on Scotland tour

MELTON RFC Under 15s made the long trip to Edinburgh for what turned out to be a successful weekend, combining two wins with a visit to Murrayfield to watch the Six Nations clash between Scotland and Italy.

MELTON started briskly with an opening try from Farnsworth following a smart offload from Legg.

Good hands kept the ball alive as Melton gained yards. Hutchinson picked up from the base of the scrum, bludgeoning past tacklers to cross in the corner for the second.

Edinburgh soon replied with their first try, but Melton proved mighty in the scrum, forcing Edinburgh to request uncontested scrummaging.

Good support play by the forwards and tackling by Folwell brought Melton within striking distance, and Robinson dived over under the posts to clinch the win.

Green was supreme with the boot, converting all three Melton tries.

Edinburgh scored a late second, but a great display of team play wrapped up a convincing victory.

THE tourists extended their winning run with a comfortable win over Portobello.

Melton showed their superiority from the outset with sprints at the line by Robinson and Wood denied. Melton were on top and very soon Hutchinson blasted over to open the scoring.

Melton did not look back and very soon passed a dream ball down the line to Legg who slammed over for the second. Wood was back in form and jinxed past the opponents to touch down for two tries before Melton’s fifth score was set up by a determined Colbourne run.

Portobello showed grit, narrowly missing a score after failing to ground a forward kick. But Melton continued to win possession as their pack dominated.

And even with 14 players, Hall skipped through to score twice in the closing minutes to add gloss to the victory. Green and Hall converted four of the seven tries. Hobill made a welcome comeback appearance following injury and Legg was man-of-the-match.
