MELTON Kyokushinkai Karate Club fielded four fighters at the British Open in London last weekend.

Yellow belt Paul Sutton made a big impression in his first tournament which featured karate exponents from all over the world.

Paul had to win five bouts to reach the final of the full contact men’s heavyweight competition but fell just short of winning the title outright.

Clubmate Remi Aziz made it through her first round encounter on her tournament debut before losing her second round clash. But the 11-year-old impressed the judges enough to win the Most Spirited Fighter award.

Seven-year-old Callum Breward fought back from three points down in his first round match only to be edged out by the judges’ decision, while coach Mark Dickinson also suffered a first round exit in his category.
