BARNSTONE opened their first match of the season slowly and trailed by seven shots after five ends, losing on three rinks.

By the ninth end, Melton Indoor Bowls Club had opened a big lead, winning on all four rinks with Barnstone managing just five shots.

Barnstone had clawed back one rink by the 15-end mark but failed to hang on to that advantage in the final three ends to leave empty-handed, while Melton grabbed a maximum-point haul.
