HAMILTON Tennis Club’s best result of the week was a 7-1 victory for the ladies’ second team against Kegworth Firsts.

Margaret Heggs and Laura Hayward won a maximum four sets, while Eileen Merrison and Pat Woolston won the remaining three.

Scores: Margaret Heggs/Laura Hayward W 6-3, 6-0; W 6-4, 6-2. Eileen Merrison/Pat Woolston W 6-4, 6-3; D 6-7, 6-3.

l Three sets from Nigel Haynes and Graham Hall helped Hamilton’s men’s third team beat Victoria 5-3.

Barrie Farnsworth and Craig Tracey won the other two sets.

Scores: Nigel Haynes/Graham Hall D 6-1, 2-6; W 6-0, 6-1. Barrie Farnsworth/Craig Tracey L 4-6, 3-6; W 6-2, 6-1.

l The under 14s boys team defeated Leicestershire B 6-2.

Alex Horobin won his singles and combined with Matthew Lowe to win the decisive doubles rubber.

Scores: Alex Horobin W 7-6, 6-2. Matthew Lowe L 4-6, 2-6. Alex Horobin/Matthew Lowe W 6-3, 6-2.

l The other teams did not fare so well, as the men’s first team lost 5-3 to Syston Northfields.

James Rowe and Tom Rowe won three sets, but Justin Horobin and Bruce Smith found the opposition too tough and were unable to win a set to gain the draw.

l The ladies’ first team lost 6-2 to Kibworth with both pairs winning one set.

Scores: Amy Douglas/Carol Gilchrist D 6-4, 6-7; L 4-6, 1-6. Sue Corfield/Margaret Roskell L 4-6, 5-7; D 1-6, 6-1.

l The men’s second team lost 7-1 to Birstall Watermead Seconds with Nigel Crymble and Ben Catlin winning one set on a tie-break to avoid the whitewash.

Scores: Jimmi Cox/Joe Jackson L 1-6, 2-6; L 3-6, 1-6. Nigel Crymble/Ben Catlin L 2-6, 4-6; D 7-6, 3-6.
