Melton Town Bowls Club stages County President's Day

Melton Mowbray Town Bowls Club staged a special feature match as chairman David Ward hosted a county president's day.

David, who is the current men’s section president of Bowls Leicestershire held the match at his home club where six rinks were played between Melton bowlers, supplemented by invited guests, and the President’s Team.

David’s team edged to a 100-93 aggregate shots win, but Melton had the edge on the rinks, winning on three and drawing on another.

The President’s Day is designed to bring together bowlers from across the county and is used as a fundraising event.

A pre-match spider competition raised about £32 and following a meal in the clubhouse restaurant a raffle was held, while the county match secretary imposed on-the-spot fines for all manner of indiscretions.

A total of £422 was raised on the day for the president’s chosen charity, Heart Link which supports Glenfield Hospital’s children’s section.
