Asfordby Captains Close and Great Dalby claim gymnastics titles

An excellent entry of 18 school teams from across the Vale of Belvoir and Melton travelled to Long Field Academy to compete in the Little Springers Key Steps Gymnastics competition.

The schools started with a mass warm-up delivered by local club sponsors Little Springers Gymnastics Club.

They run sessions at Melton Sports Village on Saturdays between 11.30am and 2.30pm.

Each pupil performed routines of several disciplines – floor, body management and vault – and competed across different age groups – British Gymnastics Key Steps level one (Years 1 and 2), Key Steps level two (Years 3 and 4) and Key Steps level three (Years 5 and 6).

Captains Close won Key Steps 1 and 2, while Great Dalby won Key Steps 3.

Both Schools will go forward to represent the area at the Leicester-shire and Rutland School Games Competition at New College, in Leicester, in April.

Other primary schools to compete were St Peter’s, Wymondham, Croxton Kerrial, The Grove, Sherard and Redmile.
