South Notts Cricket League
LAMBLEY v OLD DALBY
Old Dalby won by 17 runs
Old Dalby travelled to Lambley with a side made up of several youngsters, and having lost the toss were put in to bat by the hosts.
Dalby got off to a slow start and lost their first wicket with only seven runs on the board.
But Nick Greaves (24), David Greaves (22) and Joe Gant (47) helped the score on to 119 all out in 29 overs.
After tea, the weather became showery and very cold but, undeterred, Dalby set about their task and tight bowling from openers Greaves and Gant saw the wickets begin to fall.
Only opener Jake Bircumshaw (24) put up much resistance until he was caught by Gant off the bowling of Greaves who produced an excellent spell of bowling to finish with figures of 12-2-24-7.
It looked to be all over for Lambley, but a defiant stand by Del Turner (21 not out) and Paul Mantle (26) made for a tense finish as the game seemed to be slipping from Dalby’s grasp.
But an outstanding catch from 15-year old William Garnett with the last ball of Greaves’ over dismissed Mantle.
With the score on 102-9, Tom Warne bowled what was to be the final over and collected the last wicket on the fifth ball to bowl out the home side for 102, Warne ending with figures of 3.5-0-11-2.
A very good result for a young Dalby side who next host Beeston and Sycamore Third XI on Saturday, May 16.
