THE newly-formed Asfordby and Melton Society of Anglers’ junior match squad fished in the East Midlands Angling Federation Junior Team match on Saturday at Pickworth Pond near Grantham.

The squad, led by captain Alex Newham-Read, did superbly to finish second overall to Boston. They also claimed second prize in the individual standings through Daniel Kinnersley-Smith who also earned the prize for the heaviest fish caught on the day, a 5lb 8oz carp.

Asfordby and Melton also landed the Chairman’s prizes for the first and last fish caught through Luke Miles.

The team was formed after this year’s successful joint summer project between Melton and Belvoir School Sport Partnership and the angling club. The project was made possible by a Sport England grant.

The squad was Alex Newham-Read, Lewis Foxon, Sam Smith, Daniel Kinnersley-Smith, Luke Miles.
