Syston set to host world darts stars

SYSTON is set to be a hotbed of darts this weekend when the Brookside Club hosts the Est Midlands Darts Festival.

The action gets under way on Saturday evening with an exhibition match as the best local young talent take on established stars.

Top world-ranking players such as Wez Newton, Andy Smith, Terry Jenkins, Steve Beaton and Wayne Mardle will go up against local players including Syston pair Sam Hill and Bradley Coltman, as well as Gaz Cousins, Ricky Evans and Cain Unwin.

The night will also feature PDC/Sky Sports walk-on girls Nicole Cowell and Sarah Tunnicliffe along with an aftershow party with group 2real.

The serious business takes place on Sunday when the big names turn out for the East Midlands Open.

Entry currently stands at 160 players including Premier League stars Wez Newton, Kevin Painter, Jamie Caven and Colin Osbourne.
