A total of 40 Stoke Rochford seniors enjoyed Graham Manton’s away day at Beeston Fields last week.
Most found putting on the tricky greens a real test as they played a best two-from-three format.
Phil White, Don Clements and Cliff Mills won the day, edging Graham Manton, Phil Hewes and Mike Thornton into second place on countback, both with 79 points.
Countback was also used to separate third from fourth as Don Werner, Trevor Harvey and Barry Griffin won out with 77.
Nearest the pin on the 14th hole was Tim Haward, and nearest the pin in two on the last hole was Steve Major.
* The fourth round of the Seniors Trophy produced a clear winner when 10-handicapper Brian White scored a fantastic 45 points.
Runner-up Adrian Stannard was six points back, and Phil Hewes was third with 37.
With the best three rounds from the six monthly competitions to count, Brian moved into the overall lead with 113 points just ahead of Keith Dugmore (108) and Peter Gill (106).
* The Nottinghamshire seniors made their debut at Stoke and impressed on their first visit, narrowly losing out four-and-a-half matches to three-and-a-half.

* The format of the match between Scraptoft and Stoke’s mixed team was changed from the normal betterball matchplay format to an Am-Am stableford competition with six teams, combining a Stoke Rochford pair with a Scraptoft pair.
The weather was kind, but the pin positions proved too demanding for all mixed team players.
Results: 1 Don/Dorne Werner (Stoke Rochford) with Tony/Jane Bews (Scraptoft) 91pts, 2 Bob/Avis Griffin (Stoke Rochford) with Jim/Pam Parker (Scraptoft) 85pts.
