Exciting cycling prospect Eve Lyon rubbed shoulders with a Tour de France stage winner as she collected a national prize on Saturday.

As a national hill climb champion, Eve, from Scalford, was invited to the annual Cycling Time Trials (CTT) Champions Ball at Heythorpe Hall, in Oxford.

The teenager was presented with her National Hill Climb Championship medal by four-time Tour de France stage winner David Millar.

Eve, who rides for the Yorkshire-based Nutcracker Racing team, won the under 15s girls’ title at Sheffield last November shortly after recovering from a long bout of flu.

She also finished third in the Yorkshire Mountain Bike Championships and ended the season 10th in the national mountain bike race rankings for her age group despite missing the final race of the series.

Dad Mark said: “It was a great evening in every way. When you think that past winners of some of the top awards were Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins, it’s something Eve won’t forget.”

Eve has begun training for the 2015 mountain bike season with just two months until her first race of the season.
