Melton Mowbray Swimming Club will be cheering on three of its swimmers at the National Age Group Championships, in Sheffield, at the end of July.
William Graham, from Waltham, leads the way after qualifying for five events at the British Summer Championships which is the highest level of competition for age group swimmers.
He needed to be within the top 24 swimmers in Britain during the spring qualifying window and swam at events in Loughborough, Sheffield, Corby and Nottingham to get his times. The 15-year-old will go in the 50m and 100m butterfly, the 50m and 200m freestyle, and the 200m individual medley.
In addition to invites to the British Championships, William has also received invites to the English Summer Championships for the 100m and 400m freestyle.
Sisters Leah and Bethany Walker will join him at this event, also in Sheffield, at the beginning of August.
Bethany (13) won silver and bronze medals at the Midlands Championships, in Corby, last month. In doing so, she qualified for this year’s English Nationals in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke.
Not to be outdone, 17-year-old Leah also qualified for the English Nationals in the 50m butterfly.
The achievements of William, Bethany and Leah are the culmination of hours of dedicated training, supported by the coaches and volunteers at Melton Mowbray Swimming Club, which is quickly establishing itself as one of the top competitive clubs in the country.
