Melton swimmers benefit from Samworth Brothers Sports Opportunity Fund award

Melton Mowbray Swimming Club has received a £22,000 donation from the Samworth Brothers Sports Opportunity Fund to support the club's work with young swimmers.

The cash will help the club extend its coaching work and access pool time.

Melton Mowbray Swimming Club chairman, Alison Boland, said: “We’re extremely grateful for the support the Samworth Brothers Sports Opportunity Fund has given to the club. Swimming is a sport and discipline which makes a considerable difference to our members’ lives, and ensuring that we have the availability of pool time to continue their development is paramount.”

The Samworth Brothers Sports Opportunity Fund was launched in November 2013. It supports sports projects close to the company’s businesses that are helping young people reach their full potential and develop better life skills.

The fund has so far awarded and committed more than £1 million to clubs and organisations working with young people, including youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds, in a range of sports and activities such as football, cricket, basketball and wheelchair basketball, riding for the disabled, swimming, boxing, martial arts and volleyball.

Samworth Brothers Sports Opportunity Fund trustee, Tim Barker, said: “We’re extremely delighted to give an award to Melton Mowbray Swimming Club. The club has a long history and is a great resource for the young people in the town.”
