Melton continue to struggle in Division 2 as they lost for the fifth consecutive game against a strong Shrewsbury side.

Melton enjoyed plenty of possession early on as their hosts were content to sit back.

But the visitors, who fielded a depleted line-up, began to make mistakes as Shrewbury exerted some pressure.

They took the lead following an attack down the Melton left, a cross-cum-shot squeezing past the goalkeeper and fell for a striker to prod home.

Shrewsbury’s tricky centre midfield started to run at the Melton backline and he created the second goal with a reverse stick cross from the left to an unmarked team-mate at the back post.

Melton lost Judge to a head injury before the home team netted for a third time, courtesy of a deflection from a shot smashed into the area.

Melton improved in the second half and defended valiantly when Shrewsbury threatened their goal.

But the home team scored again from a reverse stick shot and another good finish.
