A group of Melton riders has been rewarded for its work behind the scenes as well as on the road with the award of the prestigious British Cycling Clubmark Award.

Melton Olympic Cycling Club were presented with the clubmark certificate from Steve Johnson, British Cycling’s regional manager, last week.

Clubmark accreditation recognises the club observes best practice in child protection, coaching and competition, equality and club management.

One of the club’s initiatives for juniors, the Melton Meteors, returned last week after its summer break.

The group, run by former Commonwealth Games medallist Jeff Snodin, meets for coaching every Thursday at Long Field Academy, in Melton between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

Anyone who has been inspired by Team GB’s heroics at the velodrome in Rio is welcome. Take along your bike, a helmet and a drink.
