Melton Mowbray Tennis Club extend unbeaten league record

Melton Mowbray Tennis Club continued their unbeaten run in the Loughborough University Indoor League with both teams coming out on top in recent matches.

The seconds took on Birstall First team in Division Two and ran out comfortable winners with Neil Johnson and Justin Horobin securing the men’s doubles 9-2, and Carol Gilchrist with Nicola Kennedy-Maggs taking their ladies’ match 10-1.

Both mixed pairs rounded off the match with comfortable wins (12-1 and 14-0) to retain their 100 per cent record.

Melton’s first team were paired against Charnwood in their Division One match and were in equally good form, winning 4-0.

Tom Ellis and Luke Smith teamed up to win the men’s doubles 6-2, Charlie Griffin and Jess Gadsby claimed the ladies’ doubles 10-1 before both mixed doubles were won 8-5 and 9-3.

The teams are looking forward to the new outdoor season at the Melton Sports Village Courts on Burton Road.

Evergreen coach Brent Horobin continues to look after the adult beginner, improvers and the ladies’ Tuesday and Thursday social sessions.

It is hoped the weather will be kind to the club over the next few weeks as the court repainting project is lined up for completion before the club’s first-ever open day on Saturday, April 1.

This will offer a two-hour free session for anyone wanting to an introduction to tennis.

Sessions will be divided into primary schoolchildren from 10am until noon, and older children and adults from 1pm to 3pm.

All equipment will be supplied.
