Melton Indoor Bowls Club member one match away from national finals

Melton Indoor Bowls Club member John Robinson is just one match away from reaching next month’s national indoor bowls finals.

Robinson became the area champion in the over 60s singles when he beat Bill Hobart (Barwell IBC) in a close final by 21 shots to 16.

He next plays in the area finals against Jim Mckee, of Northampton club Kingsthorpe, the winner of which will join just 15 others in the national finals.

They take place at Northampton on Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29.

Robinson is aiming to emulate clubmate Don Welch who qualified for the national finals at Melton last March and made it all the way through to the semi-finals.

Melton is gearing itself up to host the national men’s and ladies finals for the first time in eight years.

The Leicester Road based club will stage the men’s and ladies’ finals in the singles, pairs, triples and fours as well as the final of the inter-county Liberty Trophy and the Under 25s inter county final.

The tournament takes place from Friday, April 4 until Sunday, April 13.
