Melton HC Fourths completed the double in the local derby match with their biggest win of the season.
Although the scoreline flattered the hosts, they were rewarded for taking the opportunities they created.
Coalville arrived with five good youngsters in their team and settled well, creating early chances which tested stand-in keeper Shelton.
Melton’s defence of Hunn, Curtis and Weatherdon were particularly effective at reducing the Coalville threat, and left-back Parker kept out everything on his side of defence.
The home midfield mounted a series of counter-attacks and Melton took the lead midway through the first half when their second well-worked penalty corner was deflected in by Hacking off Taylor’s strike.
After half-time the balance of play shifted completely to Melton who doubled the lead when the excellent Smith was flattened by a clumsy challenge by his opposite number and the visitors were reduced to 10 men.
Melton took full advantage with Buttery put clear to drive home their second goal.
Soon after, the third goal put the match beyond Coalville when Whittaker struck from an acute angle.
Melton’s energetic midfield of Exton, Welch, Rockett were joined by Worsley in his first match of the season, and he completed the scoring with a reverse-stick shot.
Melton head to in-form Hampton-in-Arden on Saturday looking to build on an impressive win, played in good spirit between the local rivals.
