With several regulars missing, Melton took a scratch squad to Coventry with Fourths’ skipper Shelton and veteran Snow slotting in.
Melton were on top from the beginning, but failed to capitalise on several short corners with Creed’s radar off the mark.
Merrison was unlucky with a reverse-stick shot which forced a fine save, and Berkswell then took the lead with a breakaway which left Shelton stranded.
The hosts then almost increased their lead, but an outstanding reflex save from Shelton kept them out.
In the second half Melton established total control, enjoying more than 80 per cent of possession, but more short corners went unconverted.
Berkswell’s tackling was becoming more desperate and Melton eventually scored the equaliser from another corner when Creed slipped the ball to Brown who burst into space and slotted the ball home.
This deflated Berkswell, and five minutes later Smith sealed a deserved win with a reverse-stick shot to cap an excellent fightback.
