Melton Golf: Race for club honours hots up

The Monday Morning Mingles winter league continued at Melton Mowbray Golf Club this week with several pairs chasing the top spot and in contention for the Mingles title as the end of March fast approaches.

Tom Eadon with partner Liz Clark were the latest winners with a score of nett 35, three clear of the chasing pack.

Second place was shared by three couples – Mingles organisers Owen and Chris Cook, Terry and Julia Brown, and John Squires with lady captain Bettyne Norton.

The best fourball was Tom Eadon and Liz Clark with Terry and Julia Brown with a combined score of nett 73.

* The fifth round of the Autumn Trophy took place on Sunday in the winter rain and sleet.

The hardy players all agreed that, despite the name, it was a winter competition and knew what they had signed up for.

Playing a Canadian Foursomes format, Brendan Boyce, David Poolan and Kevin Robertson came out on top with 104 points, two ahead of runners-up Alan Newton, Steve Riley and Gary Kitchen.

The contest for the trophy is very close, with the best four scores from the six competitions to count.

Several players remain in the running for the title, particularly as the last round is a pairs competition with more points available.
