Melton Golf: Pollard pips Smith to Guy Rayson Trophy

Race to Woodhall Spa finalists Sam Pollard and Rob Smith met in another final – the Guy Rayson Scratch Knockout Matchplay Trophy.

The top 16 players from the club championship went through to a seeded draw to take part in the scratch matchplay contest.

Pollard secured another after beating Smith 3 and 2 after a closely-fought contest.

* Liz and Haydn Snow won the mixed matchplay knockout competition for the Ted Radford Trophy.

Both pairs had overcome tough opponents to reach Saturday’s final, where after a close match, Liz and Haydn sealed a 2 and 1 win against Sue Hitchman and Steve Goddard.

* The Friday midweek medal was won by Matt Catton with a two-under handicap round of nett 68, one shot clear of runner-up Darren Elsom. Paul Halford was third with nett 72 and the day’s best gross round was Kieran Foster’s 76.

Two’s scored: Kieran Foster, Darren Elsom, Paul Blount (x2).

* The two junior order of merit prizes, played over seven events during the season, went to James Daulby in the 0 to 19 handicap section, and to James Cartwright in the 20 to 28 handicap.
