Melton Golf Club: Seniors captain bows out on a high note

The annual challenge between the seniors captain Gerry Stephens’ team and his vice-captain George Schmidt’s team took place at Melton Mowbray Golf Club last Tuesday.

Tradition plays a large part in this event as reflected by the 40 golfers who turned out, included the current club captain and his vice-captain.

The Seniors captain team took the honours with a narrow five-and-a-half to four-and-a-half win, and Gerry thanked everyone for their support, not only for the day, but all throughout the year.

It was his last match before handing over to George within the next fortnight at the seniors’ annual meeting.

The winning pairs for the captain were Gerry Stephens and Bob Parkinson, Owen Cook and John Rigby, Haydn Snow and Robin Jones, Bob Lemon and Dick Chapman, while Richard Haynes and Joe Carrington achieved a very creditable half.
