A Melton Golf Club pair are just one step away from an expenses-paid trip to Morocco after qualifying for the UK regional pairs final of the 2016 Morocco Matchplay, powered by HowDidiDo.

Gary Kitchen and Matt Catton travel to Northumberland to compete in the Morocco Matchplay northern regional final, at Slaley Hall, near Hexham, on Monday and Tuesday.

The pair will attempt to finish in the top four to earn a place in February’s grand final to be played in Marrakech.

In total, 32 golfers from two regional finals - the other is in Devon - will enjoy complimentary return flights from Gatwick to Marrakech, courtesy of British Airways, five nights’ luxury bed-and-breakfast accommodation, four rounds of championship golf, and a last-night gala dinner and prize presentation.

* A small field of Melton GC ladies played in the LGU pendant medal last Wednesday.

Cheryl Osborne’s nett score of 77 was enough to secure the pendant by two shots from runner-up Drina Terzza.

* John and Denise Waldron won this week’s Monday Morning Mingles nine-hole greensome with a nett 35.0.

Runners-up Bob and Pat Barnes shot a nett 36.8 to knock Bob Luke and Cheryl Osborne (nett 37.2) into third place.

The best combined fourball score of nett 73.0 went to Owen and Chris Cook with John and Denise Waldron.
