Craig Dolby again impressed as his race craft helped salvage an impressive finish at the opening round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Championship.

The Melton racing driver and Molitor Racing Systems team-mate Sean Walkinshaw were joined by Martin Plowman in the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 at the Italian F1 circuit of Monza.

Following a disappointing qualifying, the German team started in 24th, but Plowman took five places in the first half-an-hour.

Handing over to Walkinshaw, MRS was even running in sixth place momentarily, and the young Englishman turned in a solid drive, allowing Dolby to take over the anchor role of the three-hour race in 19th.

Dolby again got the best out of the Nissan and, after great battles with an SLS and Ferrari, finished in an extraordinary 12th position.

Team principal Karsten Molitor said: “The Endurance Championship is a very competitive field and the smallest mistake will be noticed.

“We have the right package and were able to make up some places thanks to our good drivers.

“It was a great race and I am excited to see what else there is in store for us this season.”

The next stop for the Blancpain Endurance Series is Silverstone on May 23 and 24.
