Melton boxer Michael Robinson will face a change of opponent when he bids for an English amateur title next month.

Robinson had been due to fight holder Lewis Gallant at the Muay Thai Assassins show at the Market Tavern, in Melton, on Saturday, March 7.

But the Newcastle boxer, who beat Robinson to the belt last year, has decided to turn professional.

The Melton man will instead face number two ranked fighter Hayden Smith, from Manchester, for the vacant title, and has been offered the carrot of a British title fight if successful.

Trainer Mark Barlow said: “We would rather fight Gallant as we thought we had beaten him the first time they met and we know how he fights.

“We don’t know anything about Smith so it’s unknown territory for us. But Michael’s training hard and wants this belt.”

* Young Assassin Thai boxer Kain Nolan has a tough bout on March 7 when he faces London opponent Wes Clarke, from the Double K Gym.

Clarke has a good record, and Nolan knows a victory would push him up the rankings.

* Tickets are available for the show from any Assassin member, from the Assassins Muay Thai Facebook page, or by calling (01664) 567491.
