Lakeview Fishery regular Sean Huggins had extra reason for cheer after winning last Wednesday’s Middy Xtreme Winter Series match.

Huggins caught 87lb exactly, off the golden peg seven on the lagoon pool which won him an extra £100 bonus.

He netted F1s and carp down the track left and right, but Milton Keynes angler Pete Archer qualified by default for the Middy Winter Series final on March 19.

Top five: 1 Sean Huggins (Drennan/Dynamite) 87lb (lagoon peg 7), 2 Pete Archer (Guru) 56lb 4oz (canal peg 14), 3 Lee Jones (Maver) 32lb 5oz (canal peg 6), 4 Paul Cooper (Coopers Tackle) 22lb 5oz (canal peg 24), 5 Steve Haywood (Middy) 18lb 10oz (canal peg 8).

* A drop in temperatures stopped the fish from feeding on the canal pool on Saturday with the weights being tight all over.

But it was Andy Searle who took top spot with 48lb 4oz off the unfancied peg 23, catching mainly carp and F1s on maggot and bread.

With the top four anglers already having booked their places for the final, fifth-placed Steve Fisher went through thanks to a 20lb haul.

Top five: 1 Andy Searle (LVS) 48lb 4oz (peg 23), 2 Bob Murray (Net Busters) 44lb 8oz, 3 Sam Brown (Maver) 42lb 12oz (peg 11), 4 Sean Huggins (Drennan/Dynamite) 28lb 8oz (peg 13), 5 Steve Fisher (LVS) 20lb (peg 15).

* Sunday Open results (top five): 1 Shaun Kemp (LVS) 27lb 5oz (serpent peg 2), 2 Neil Edwards (Maver) 25lb 5oz (peg 11), 3 Simon Skelton (Maver) 16lb 8oz (peg 25), 4 Daz Sly (Coopers Tackle) 12lb 8oz (peg 9), 5 Paul Cooper (Coopers Tackle) 10lb 12oz (peg 5).
