Holwell Sports trophy won by 93-year-old
There was a fitting name among the winners as Holwell Sports Bowls Club competed for the Alec Whittaker Trophy.
As the Asfordby Hill club continues to celebrate its centenary year, their eldest statesman, Frank Fielding (93), who is about to celebrate his 70th wedding anniversary, was part of the winning triple, alongside Norma Jackson and Dennis Pearson.
The competition was held in very hot conditions and the tea, organised by Anne Whittaker, provided a well-earned respite.
Anne, the club’s immediate past president, donated the trophy and organises the event every year in memory of her husband.
