Vale of Belvoir boxer Stan Stannard faces the toughest bout of his career next month when he bids to win an amateur title.

Stannard will contest the Notts and Lincolnshire Middleweight Title against current holder Jordan Cameron on Saturday, February 7, at the Mellish Leisure Centre, in Bulwell.

Cameron, who boxes out of the Empire Boxing Club, in Sutton-in-Ashfield, carries by far the greater experience, the 19-year-old having fought 60 bouts to Stannard’s 18.

But Stannard’s trainer, the former professional boxer Kevin Sheehan, still believes the 18-year-old from Harby has the ability to win and take the title.

Fitness may prove to be the key factor and Stan, who works for KS Composites, in Long Clawson, is following a strict training and dietary regime in the build-up to the fight.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to this fight and winning would really give my boxing career a boost.

“I know my opponent is a very good fighter and I will have to be at my best to win, but I can only train as hard as I can and give 100 per cent.”
