Hamilton Tennis Club: Parmar and Griffin ease to mixed doubles title

Ryan Parmar and Charlie Griffin showed their class to win Hamilton Tennis Club’s mixed doubles title last week.

Ryan and Charlie defeated Tom Elliss and Carol Gilchrist in the final of the club championships in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

* The remaining summer league veterans’ matches saw the men’s second team chalk up a 5-3 win over Welland Park to secure a mid-table position in Division Four.

Graham Hall and Steve Thompson led the team with three sets aided by two sets from Joe Cunningham and Mike Pratt.

Scores: Graham Hall/Steve Thompson D 6-2, 3-6; W 6-1, 6-0. Joe Cunningham/Mike Pratt L 2-6, 1-6; W 6-2, 6-2.

* The men’s first team lost 6-2 to Leicestershire B despite two sets from Bruce Smith and Steve Thompson and claimed a mid-table position in Division Two.

Scores: Bruce Smith/Steve Thompson L 6-7, 3-6; W 6-4, 6-1. Doug Hacking/Dave Gildove L 2-6, 3-6; L 4-6, 3-6.

* Hamilton is now at the start of their Winter League matches and the men’s first team got off to a good start with a 5-3 win over Gynsill in Division One.

Ryan Parmar and Tom Elliss led the team with three sets, and Steve Wallace and Jack Elliss chipped in with two for a narrow victory.

* The men’s second team gained a comfortable 6-2 win against Kegworth with Ben Catlin and Justin Horobin winning maximum four sets.

Joe Jackson and Jimmi Cox drew both of their matches to complete the win.

* The ladies’ first team defeated near neighbours Syston Northfields 5-3 with a maximum four-set haul from Jo Heggs and Carol Gilchrist.

Beth Lowe and Jenny Golland managed to win one of their sets in a marathon match to clinch victory.

Scores: Carol Gilchrist/Jo Heggs W 7-5, 6-1; W 6-0, 6-3. Beth Lowe/Jenny Golland D 5-7, 7-5; L 6-7, 3-6.

* The ladies’ second team had a tough start to their fixtures, and lost 6-2 to Market Bosworth with each pair winning a set.
