The Affleck family’s fine winning run continued last week at Greetham Valley.

Following the previous week’s win for father and son Ian and Luc in the Family Doubles Knockout, Luc finished a creditable third in the midweek qualifier. But he was outdone by his dad last weekend when Ian won the first of the winter Order of Merit competitions with an impressive 46 points.

The final midweek qualifier of the season was held on the Lakes course in wet conditions, particularly for the early starters.

Robert Lewin took the win with 40 points after a consistent round with two birdies and only one hole scoring worse than a bogey.

Second place went to Nick Cunnington, who was cut to a handicap of three after scoring 38 points, a round which included three birdies and an eagle on the par five 15th. Luc was just one point back in third.

* The seniors had their last chance this season to make a handicap adjustment at the October Medal.

Playing on the Valley course, which normally allows aggressive scoring, Division One was topped by Bernie Bell with a round of nett 65 which included a run of six pars on the front nine.

Runner-up Peter Giblett also scored a nett 65, but the two top winning scores, came from Division Two where overall winner John Morfee took the honours with an amazing score of nett 59 which reduced his handicap from 19 to 16.

Fred Want was runner-up with an excellent nett 62.

* The club captain’s final Away Day was held at Stanton-on-the-Wolds.

Prizes were available for nearest-the-pins on par threes, a longest drive and prizes for the top five individual scores.

Scoring was competitive with Steve Anderson taking top spot with 39 points and landing the longest drive prize.

Ian Cunnington took second place on countback with 37 points from Bill Kirton, while Paul Jenkinson was fourth with 36 and the ever-consistent Frank Hinch took fifth on countback with 35.
