The Greetham Valley Winter League quarter-finals were played in very cold winds, gusting between 40 and 50mph.

Paul and Adam Clegg opened against the previously undefeated Stephen Chisholm and Steve Burgon, and after a tough fight, Paul and Adam won through 2 and 1. Previous winners Ian Bain and Dave Morgan won the first four holes on their way to a 5 and 4 victory over Chris Steele and Darren Haughton.

The 2013 and 2014 winners Pete Dickinson and Peter Smith strengthened their hopes of a hat-trick by beating Carl Causbrook and Neil Crees 4 and 3.

Alan Bennett and Steff Dutton pipped Graham Smith and Ian Copley 1-up in the fourth quarter-final.

The semi-finals take place on Sunday, March 15 when father and son Paul and Adam take on Ian and Dave, and Pete Dickinson with Peter Smith play Alan and Steff.

* John Dowding was the runaway winner of the seniors’ Winter League with a massive total of 192, a full 37 points ahead of runner-up Peter Giblett.

Bob King, there or thereabouts throughout the competition, finished third, on 120, and David Aldred (107) was fourth.

Ian Kellam won the final round of the league with 37 points in extremely cold and windy conditions on Monday. Tim Lee took second place with 33 points and Peter Giblett (32) was third on countback from Stuart Dodd.

* Jackie Friend won the latest round of the Ladies’ Winter Order of Merit on Saturday with a great score of 34 points.
