Great Dalby Primary School swimmers made a splash by winning an area gala at Waterfields Leisure Centre last Wednesday.

Pupils from across Melton and the Vale of Belvoir competed in the Area School Swimming Gala which was supported by leaders from John Ferneley College.

Each school competed in a variety of races including the medley and freestyle relays, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle.

A huge amount of talent was on show during the gala as Great Dalby followed up their runners-up spot at the area gymnastics by becoming the overall swimming champions.

They edged Brownlow into the runners-up spot, while Stathern took third place.

Dalby, who took an eight-strong squad of Year 5 and 6 pupils, will now represent the area at the School Games Summer Championships at Welbeck Defence College at Woodhouse, near Loughborough, on Wednesday, June 24.

Other schools to compete were St Mary’s, St Francis, Scalford, Ab Kettleby, The Grove and Asfordby Captains Close.
