Melton Mowbray Cricket Club have been busy in the nets for months, but spent last weekend with a different kind of pre-season preparations.

A total of 31 volunteers gave their time across two days to spruce up the club’s All England Sports Ground home as part of the annual NatWest Cricket Force Weekend.

Saturday started clear and dry, but with the cricketer’s customary foe of rain threatening an appearance, the day’s progress got under way early.

Preparation had started before the day with the building of the new sightscreen ready for painting, while the old sightscreen also got a lick of paint.

The arrival of rain halted the painting, but the hardy bunch worked through the drizzle on other tasks including a full spring clean of the clubhouse, kitchen and bar, improvements to fencing along the boundary as well as the pitch.

A few larger jobs were started too, notably the construction of a second fixed net and a new scoreboard and scorer’s booth next to the clubhouse.

Melton Mowbray Cricket Club would like to thank all the volunteers for their time, and say a very special thanks to the Brooksby Melton College students who had spent time making new frames and doors for the clubhouse.
