Melton Mowbray CC’s two Under 13s sides went head-to-head in a league derby match on Sunday.
MMCC Surepipe won the toss and were given the best possible start when L. Tew had H. Stokes caught at mid-wicket by J. Wilson with the very first ball of the match.
C. Hull and N. Breeze found the runs hard to come by for MMCC Spearhead against tight bowling from M. Wright, Tew, S. Thorpe, Wilson and M. Braime.
Breeze was run out by M. Kilburn’s direct hit before E. Hood and S. Hyde were bowled by W. Bestwick and S. Jeal respectively.
Hull finished the innings unbeaten on 23, while Tew was the pick of the bowling with 2 for 3 off three overs as Spearhead posted 90-5.
Braime and Kilburn got the Surepipe reply off to a great start with the former hitting six fours before retiring on a better than run-a-ball 27. Shortly after L. Birch ran out Kilburn with a direct hit, but Tew and A. Cropper (15 not out) saw their team to a nine-wicket win.
The game was played in good spirits, and music and a barbecue were enjoyed after the game.
