The Melton and Belvoir schools team travelled to Loughborough University for the Leicestershire and Rutland School Games Spring Championships last Wednesday.

The borough’s team featured four secondary schools and one representative team. They faced nine other area teams from across Leicestershire and Rutland who took part in 15 competitions across eight sports.

John Ferneley College’s Key Stage 3 swimming team shone in the pool to win the silver medal. The Melton school were also awarded Spirit of The Games honours in the Year 9 rowing and Year 7 girls’ sportshall athletics.

Melton and Belvoir won a second silver medal as Birch Wood Special School finished as runners-up in the learning disability basketball competition.

Their representative team, featuring students from across the Melton and Belvoir schools, came together for the wheelchair basketball competition.

Training sessions with the Melton Stallions helped the team finish in the bronze medal position.

As well as the competing schools, Brooksby Melton College led the dodgeball competition in the Sir David Wallace Sports Hall as 20 of their BTEC Sport students refereed games, took a lead on team managerial roles and results.
