Melton and Belvoir girls on the cross country podium

Melton and Belvoir cross country runners celebrated one of their most successful-ever county championships at Prestwold Hall.

An 80-strong area schools squad made the short trip to the Leicestershire/Rutland Cross Country Championships which ran concurrently with the national championships.

The team had all qualified from the area championships at Long Field Academy in February when the top 10 runners from each year group went through.

The girls stole the headlines with three county podium position.

Melton and Belvoir’s Year 5 girls’ team were county champions, while their Year 3 counterparts finished second.

Long Clawson Primary School pupil Ruby Fell also finished second overall in the Year 6 county Race and 21st nationally, while Rosie Ashmore was part of the Year 5 girls’ team and also represented Leicestershire, finishing fourth in the county.

Year 5 girls’ team: Rosie Ashmore, Lottie Harris, Amy Willetts, Grace Barlow, Olivia Gladstone, Jennifer Judson, Hannah Birch, Daisy Prachett, Imogen Wade, Frankie Turner.

Year 3 girls’ team: Isla Murray, Tixie Fisher, Ruby Ashmore, Megan Fowler, Lucy Hiskins, Lucy Upton, Eloise Walton, Megan Sargent, Isabel Adkins, Farah Walsh, Imogen Jones.
