Stoke Rochford GC: Harris crowned club champion

The Men's Club Championship for the Shelley Cup took place last weekend at Stoke Rochford GC with some good scoring on both Saturday and Sunday.

An exceptional gross score of 68 on day two was enough to make Robin Harris club champion following his opening round of 74 for a total of 142.

Results (gross): 1 Robin Harris 142 (74-68), 2 Ian Braime 146 (72-74), 3 Craig Hallam 147 (76-71). (Nett): 1 Steve Greenfield 138 (70-68), 2 Greg Ewart 139 (71-68), 3 Steve Cullington 140 (71-69).

* Stoke Rochford hosted a successful ladies’ open which was contested by 60 golfers from 17 different clubs.

Shirley King (Belton Woods) won the morning 18-hole medal with a nett 69, one shot ahead of Pauline Haggerty.

Ali Taylor (Ingestre Park) was third with 71 on countback from Lesley Perrin (Belton Woods), while Stoke’s Karen Rawson was fifth with nett 72. Best gross went to Helen Lowe (Scraptoft) for her round of 76.

The afternoon foursomes were played over 16 holes and won by Helen Roscoe (Toft) and Angela Roper (Spalding) with 35 points.

Dorne Werner (Stoke Rochford) and Michelle York (Luffenham Heath) were six points back, taking second spot on countback from Laura Harvey and Hattie Dow (Stoke Rochford).

Competition winners – Bursnall Cup: Elaine Kirby (36pts); Medal: Dorne Werner (nett 73). Ping Qualifier: Sue Bellingall/Marion Carvath (40pts).
