Smith and Brand take third spot on the Lakes Course in betterball
The Seniors’ Open was played on the Lakes Course on Monday and the dry, and surprisingly blustery weather, in no way impeded the scoring.
Playing off 90 per cent handicaps in a pairs betterball competition there were numerous scores in excess of 40.

The highest home team pairing of Graham Smith and George Brand took third place with 44 points, winning that place on countback from three other pairs.
The overall winning score of 47 points was scored by Tony Fell (23) and Mike Hook (22) from Torksey who scored consistently around the course with 23 points on the front nine and 24 over the second half.
On Wednesday the ladies took advantage of the fine weather to play a Texas Scramble format with teams of four competing.
The sunny conditions allowed high scoring for a change and seven teams took to the course.

Second place went to Bryony Batch, Rita Knapp, Angela Wheeler and Gilly Grant with nett 60.8, but the overall winners were Liz Haughton, Ellie Haughton, Bev Dolman and Jackie Friend with nett 60.2.
The second team played Toft on Saturday at Greetham, and produced a fine 5-1 win in spite of the weather.
Andy Bass and Dave Pritchett were back to winning ways with a 2&1 victory whilst Carl Causbrook and Paul Jenkinson (making a welcome return) won 2&1.
Dean Wilkinson and Tom Haynes eventually went down 2&1 after a hard-fought game which swung forwards and backwards over 18 holes.

Ally McNaughton and Dave Pusch won 2&1 whilst Jon Herbert and Dave Thomson had a fine win of 5&4.
Team captain Mark Mousley, who rattled in several birdies, and Dave Morgan eased home 5&3.
The seniors hosted Belton Woods, winning 4-2.
Captain Mel Clarke and Neil Bradbury won their match while vice-captain John Morfee and his partner had the misfortune to face a very strong opposing side in their fixture.
