2013 Stoke Rochford captain Peter Gill with out-going skipper Roger Smith

THERE was a changing of the guard at Stoke Rochford Golf Club last week when more than 100 members attended their annual meeting.

Out-going club captain Roger Smith presented the skipper’s sweater and tie to the new incumbent for 2013, Peter Gill. In turn Peter presented Roger with a commemorative gift, a history of Stoke Rochford’s past presidents, chairmen and captains.

Among Peter’s last duties as club captain was to hand over the proceeds over his year of fundraising to his nominated charity the Alzheimer’s Society which was a mighty £4,268.23.

l Stoke Rochford seniors played a best two from three multiplier as this week’s Winter Warmers challenge.

The winners with 88 points were Mike Nixon, Ray Elsome and Phil White who finished eight points clear of runners-up Allan Hayward, Brian Ayto and Alan Dolby.

Duncan Bennett, Ken Taylor and Tim Haward finished third with 78 points. The seniors also welcomed Philip Hewes as their first new senior member of 2013.

Ten rounds of the series have now been played with Phil White increasing his overall lead. He now has 30 points with Brian Ayto second on 27 and Mike Nixon and Brian White joint third overall on 25.
