Melton Golf Club: Pollard takes midweek honours

Sam Pollard continued his good early season form by winning last Thursday's midweek stableford at Melton Golf Club.

The Melton golfer won on countback with 34 points from Rob Smith knocked into second place. One point further back was Malcolm Farrow in third place.

Phil Curtis shot the only two of the day to take the sweep.

* The Saturday Medal was well supported by 77 players with Gary Kitchen’s superb nett 66 earning the win by three shots. Runner-up Matt Catton shot a nett 69 and Chris Carmichael was a further shot back, taking third on countback.

Oliver Duley and Sam Pollard shared the best gross score prize after both shot 74.

* The ladies’ section played for the Hi-Low Trophy last Wednesday in challenging weather conditions.

Maureen Stapleford and Lindy Dane were convincing winners with nett 73, fully seven shots clear of Di Orson and Liz Clark. Third place went to Jeanette Holland and Liz Snow with nett 83.

* The ladies played a friendly match with Forest Hill GC on Thursday using an am-am format.

Melton GC pair Bettyne Norton and Lindy Dane, playing with Forest Hill’s Pat Bloomer and Kim Lee won the day with 68 points.

* Melton seniors started their match season with a resounding 8-0 win over Stanton-on-the-Wolds.

Despite the result, the match was played in a good spirits with friendly banter.
