At Radcliffe-on-Trent GC on Monday they lost 6-2 despite a win for Bob Luke and Julian Kisiel, and creditable halves for the pairings of Richard Grieve and Frank Williams, and John Squires with Dennis Dayman.

Fortunes were reversed the following day when they hosted Scraptoft GC who were soundly beaten 7-1.

* Melton’s B team travelled for two tough away league fixtures, opening with a very good half against an unbeaten Market Harborough.

The visitors faced several opponents with single-figure handicaps as well as cold, wet conditions.

Callum Relf and Glenn Price (2 and 1), and Brian Cole with Jack Griffin (1-up) both won while stand-in captain Steve Wright with Neil Eaves halved.

The wet theme continued at Park Hill where the team again managed a draw.

Andy Blunt and Richard Grieve (2 and 1) secured their first win of the season, while Brian Cole and Jack Griffin won 3 and 2), and Neil Eaves with Jono Cliffe halved.

* Humberstone Heights GC hosted the Triella Trophy played between themselves, Whetstone and holders, Melton C.

Pete Rayers played superbly to lead the way for Melton with 40 points, but home advantage proved too much as Humberstone came out on top by three points from Melton and Whetstone who tied for second place.

* Kevin Robertson won his first midweek medal last week when his nett 70 topped a small field.

Mick Curtis and Rob Smith finished second and third, respectively, with nett 73.
