Melton Golf: Alcott secures Bowl win as top four tie

Playing a bogey format, Simon Alcott won with +2 on countback with Matt Catton, Chris Boulter and Bev Blake, second to fourth respectively.

The two’s sweep went to Alan Sleath, Simon Alcott, Owen Cook and Jevan Goddard

Handicaps 21 to 28 played the second round of the Compton Cup which was won by Chris Vose with a superb +4 on the course.

Trevor Jamson carded a +1 on countback to finish second from Nigel Blunt.

* The ladies’ monthly medal was won with an excellent below handicap score of net 73 by Bettyne Norton.

In second place was Margaret Samways with 78, and Denise Waldron was third with 79.

* Melton ladies’ friendly match against The Leicestershire resulted in a convincing 4-0 win for Melton.

Results: Liz Snow (captain)/Karen Middleton won 3-up; Cheryl Osborne/Janet Bentley won 5 and 4; Liz Clark/Sue Bailey won 3 and 2; Bettyne Norton/Margaret Samways won 3-up.

* Sam Pollard won the men’s midweek stableford Race to Woodhall Spa qualifier last week with a total of 37 points.

George Boddy was a point back in second, and third place went to Kieran Foster on countback from Dougie Bryce, after both scored 35 points.

Twos were scored by Sam Pollard, Jack Griffin and Kieran Foster.

* The club held a Funday Sunday Open Day aimed at all of the family.

Children took part in a free tri golf session on the practice area with assistant professional Callum Relf, while other activities included a bouncy castle, children’s and adults putting, face painting, children’s entertainer and a tombola.

Club Professional Dan Bailey held free coaching sessions for adults, including his Sky Trak system, and a barbecue was lit on the patio.
