Melton Mowbray Cricket Club hosted a Year 5 and 6 Schools Kwik Cricket competition on Friday when 17 mixed and girls teams battled it out to be crowned area champions.

Former England A cricketer Darren Bicknell, director of the Belvoir Castle Cricket and Countryside Trust, umpired a semi-final and then a close-fought final in the mixed competition.

Frisby eventually took the win over Brownlow by just seven runs.

The girls’ final was another close affair which saw Brownlow again pipped into second place, Bottesford winning by a five-run margin.

Both Bottesford and Frisby will go on to represent the area in the county finals later this month.
